Likewise, reducing exposure to prolonged, direct sunlight, drastic environmental temperature changes, and reducing heavy physical activity can result in reduced pain. For someone leaving school and begininng a career, he should choose a career that avoids heavy manual labor. The cessation of smoking will also retard the spread of the disease for those prone to lung failure. Recent studies indicate that patients in the advanced stage are prime candidates for kidney transplants. So long as the new kidney comes from a donar who is not a Fabry patient, the transplanted kidney should remain disease free.
